The PowerSpy is an advanced wireless energy analyzer. Its innovative design allows in particular a precision measurment of sleep mode power consumptions of line-powered equipments. The PowerSpy provides voltage, current and power real time waveforms as an oscilloscope, and sends this information to a PC via a Bluetooth connection. The associated software allows an unprecedented analysis on the market : real-time graphs, automatic calculation of more than 20 derivative values, statistics, harmonic analysis, detection and analysis of the  peaks of or the voltage drops, automatic HTML reports, data export, etc..

Some answers on common questions related to the PowerSpy product. Of course don't hesitate to contact us for any additional information. 

What is the difference between the PowerSpy and a classical low cost powermeter ?

Firstly the PowerSpy allows to get precise measurements of low powers, down to 10mW, whereas classical power meters have a far lower sensititivy. This is key to measure standby currents of electronic equipments.

Secondly the PowerSpy not only measure an RMS power, but is a real real-time oscilloscope and allows to analyse current and voltage waveforms. So it provides far more advanced features than usual powermeters : harmonic distorsion measurement, optimisation of AC/DC switching power supplies, etc. The Bluetooth interface allows also automatic and configurable report generation.

 

Does the PowerSpy as good as a high end power analyzer ?

The PowerSpy has even better performances than the majoroty of equipments costing ten times more, in particular for low power measurements for which the PowerSpy has been specificaly optimized. Thanks to its PC-based measurement architecture, the PowerSpy provides a rich analysis with flexible reporting options. However classical high-end equipments are better suited than the PowerSpy for high power applications (above 1kW) as well as for triphase measurements.
 

Can I use the PowerSpy to measure very low currents and powers, for example for equipments in standby ?

Clearly yes. The PowerSpy allows to precisely measure powers down to some tens of milliwatts.
 

Should I install the supplied Bluetooth drivers ?

NO, Windows has built-in Bluetooth drivers since XP.
 

What is the maximum distance of the Bluetooth link ?

It is very dependant on the Bluetooth module used on the PC side. With the supplied Bluetooth dongle the usual coverage is a couple of meters, as the Bluetooth interface first function is to provide a safe galvanic insulation.
 

What are the improvements of software V1.6 ?

Mainly the addition of a real-tiem trigger and acquisition status indicator, plus the availability of a french version of the software.
